Private credit defaults have officially reached a record. According to Fitch Ratings, the default rate rose to 6.3% in August, exceeding the previous record set only one month earlier. But the most important number may not be 6.3%. It may be Fitch’s 45%. And that reveals the bigger story, one about liquidity and tightening.
