A top DC lawyer who was secretly advising Donald Trump in his efforts to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory has resigned as a partner at her law firm after being outed on the president’s leaked phone call with Georgia’s Secretary of State.

The lawyer, Cleta Mitchell, was among the handful of people who participated in the disastrous call where Trump pressured Brad Raffensperger to ‘recalculate’ Georgia’s presidential election results in his favor.

Mitchell’s involvement with the Trump campaign was apparently kept under wraps until audio of the call leaked on Sunday.

Her firm, Foley & Lardner, which boasts Major League Baseball among its roster of high-profile clients and has a policy barring its lawyers from representing clients involved in relitigating the presidential election, announced her departure in a statement on Tuesday.

‘Cleta Mitchell has informed firm management of her decision to resign from Foley & Lardner effective immediately,’ the statement said, according to the New York Times.

‘Ms. Mitchell concluded that her departure was in the firm’s best interests, as well as in her own personal best interests. We thank her for her contributions to the firm and wish her well.’

Mitchell shared her frustration with the ordeal in her own statement to clients and friends, in which she blamed her resignation on ‘a massive pressure campaign in the last several days mounted by leftist groups via social media and other means against me, my law firm and clients of the law firm’.

She defended her involvement in Trump’s campaign, vowing to ‘redouble’ her efforts toward maintaining ‘election integrity’.
