Local leaders are outside of Chatham’s Walmart demanding the store remains open 2 days after corporate officials announced they’d close the store this weekend. A pharmacy at the location will close May 12. Neighbors received a 5-day notice. @BlockClubCHI pic.twitter.com/oGHkwEPk7p

They have no one to blame but themselves, for the stores to be closing. Looting and theft have done these businesses in.
My late Dad had a business here in Northwest Indiana for decades. He had many clients all over the area, even in Gary, Indiana. In the 1950’s and most of the 1960’s, Gary was really nice. The downtown was full of shops. The city was clean and orderly, the crime rate was low.
In the late 1960’s, things started changing. A liberal mayor was elected, and anyone who could, left Gary. People literally abandoned their homes and businesses, if they could not sell them quick enough. The crime rate skyrocketed. My Dad was robbed, and the business clients provided him with security. It wasn’t enough, and my Dad was robbed again. He ended up dropping all the mid town clients 1st, than the Glen Park ones, and the Miller ones. Eventually, every one of my Dad’s clients businesses, were looted and burned down within a few years after being dropped.
As a business, when your safety is jeopardized, you are going to pick safety over profit. The money isn’t worth your life.
