Why Do We Take It for Granted That the US is a First World Country?

What is the metric? How many billionaires we have?

The level of violent crime, instability, wealth inequality, corruption, political freedom, etc. suggest the US is more of a 2nd or (especially in regards to public safety) even 3rd world. Much closer to Brazil than Western Europe

According to the Peace Index, which heavily weighs violent crime rates and public safety, the US is sandwiched between Azerbaijan and South Africa in 122nd place.
