Youtube has done this for years. If there is a video that is extremely popular but talks about unsavory things or is outright controversial in nature, they simply will not put it into trending. The amount of times they have done this is ridiculous and if you’ve used youtube ever since the trending feature was invented, you’d know it’s been heavily manipulated since ~2015, and and extremely manipulated post 2018 and 2020.
