In one chart: Warren could go it alone in 21 policy areas, including breaking up big tech, says Barclays

As some investors fret that Wall Street-bashing progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren could get elected president next year, a Barclays analyst has put together a chart showing what she could accomplish in the White House without having to work with Congress.

The Massachusetts Democrat could use executive orders, presidential memorandums, proclamations and appointments to regulatory agencies in order achieve her policy goals, said Shawn Golhar, the bank’s head of public policy research, in a recent note.

His handy chart, shown below, suggests Warren could go it alone in 21 policy areas. The areas include more actively managing the dollar DXY,+0.17%  , breaking up Big Tech XLK, +0.40%   and banning fracking on federal lands.

“Given her consistent political ideology and policies of ‘big structural’ change, her polling in national and early states, and the stream of questions from investors and corporates, we feel it is prudent to consider her policies and their effects on the markets SPX, +0.41%  ,” Golhar wrote.

Warren edged past former Vice President Joe Biden in early October in a widely followed average of national polls, but her stay atop the crowded 2020 Democratic field proved fleeting and she’s back at No. 2. She is the front-runner, however, in averages of polls for Iowa and New Hampshire, the two states that get to pick first in the Democratic primary.
