Inequality doesn’t matter so long as people on the lower rungs still feel they’re progressing within their own ambit. The real problem is that in our debt-ridden society, everyone short of the top fraction of the 1% feels like they’re on a hamster wheel, barely keeping up. Levelling is not necessary, equality is not necessary – things like sound money, economic freedom, and a minimal government that’s strong where it matters (defense, justice, infrastructure, fraud prevention, and some modicum of a safety net) and doesn’t waste time and money on things it can’t possibly do anyway – that’s what matters.
