Dozens of Jimmy Buffett Fans Reportedly Get Sick in Dominican Republic

Just days after arriving at the Hotel Riu Palace Macao in Punta Cana in April, travelers with the Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association got sick.

Dana Flowers is a member of the fan club and a travel agent.

He said of the 114 people on the trip, 47 developed symptoms and many of them couldn’t even leave their rooms.

The sickened travelers aren’t sure what caused their illness, but Flowers said they all “drank at the swim-up pool bar or swam at the swim-up pool.”

“Four or five days we were having a good time but then by the middle of the week people were beginning to get sick,” Flowers told KFOR, adding that he lost 14 pounds over the course of the illness he contracted on the trip.

“I can’t even explain how sick I was.”

A Boca Raton couple says they are battling an infection after a trip to the Dominican Republic.

Adelman says his symptoms started four days into the trip.

Now the Adelmans are back to their home in Boca Raton after a visit to the doctor.

“They found two different strains of E. coli,” says Larry Adelman.
