Mozambique’s fourth-largest city, Beira, was hit the hardest by Cyclone Idai when the storm made landfall for a second time on March 14, destroying 90 percent of the port city according to the International Federation of Red Cross.
President Filipe Nyusi said on Monday that as many as 1,000 people might have been killed by the cyclone, which may be the worst ever storm to hit the southern hemisphere according to the UN.
