President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion “American Jobs Plan” repeatedly promotes union organizing and sets aside some high-paying jobs just for union members.
While only 10.8% of the American labor force is part of one, unions received outsize attention and protection in the new package.
Unions are mentioned 24 times in the Biden plan.
And 13 of those mentions are a call for unionization and encouragement that workers will join a labor union.
The phrase “join a union” is repeated nine times in the White House fact sheet.
In the introduction of the package, for example, it said that Biden will “Create good-quality jobs that pay prevailing wages in safe and healthy workplaces while ensuring workers have a free and fair choice to organize, join a union, and bargain collectively with their employers.”
Throughout the fact sheet, jobs appear to be set aside for Big Labor, which chose Biden over former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
