WSJ texts show Guilfoyle seeking $100,000 Amex payment; White House asks her to resign

Wall Street Journal reports in late September and early October detailed Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle promoting a Greek construction firm, accepting gifts, and texting Trump donor Eric Deters in July 2025 to wire $100,000 to clear her American Express bill before her Senate confirmation in exchange for access to administration officials. Deters called it pay-to-play. Guilfoyle’s lawyers said the money was for prior speaking fees. On 13 October press secretary Katie Zacharia said the White House had asked Guilfoyle to resign. Trump said he didn’t like what he read. Guilfoyle resigned and said she would defend herself. The State Department inspector general has looked at the matter.
